July 2019

Dear Son’Spot Family,

Praise the Lord! God is still in the life changing business. It is our privilege to witness His works each day. In 1 Corinthians 3:7, the Bible says, “The one who plants and the one who waters really do not matter. It is God who matters, because He makes the plant grow, He gives the increase.” Many have received from the Lord through Bible teaching, worship, food outreach, and boardwalk outreach. It is a great summer (our 39th) and we give God all the glory.

We gather everyday (except Wednesday) at 10am for sharing the Word and prayer, then complete work projects, and at 5pm go on the boardwalk for outreach ministry. We gather again at 8pm for Bible, prayer, and fellowship, and at 9pm worship with music and song (Tuesdays are Game Nights). Additionally, the food outreach ministry includes dinner on Thursdays at 5:30pm, and breakfast on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30am. Each week we also deliver food bags and minister to people in their homes, and we minister in the local jail. We meet on Sunday mornings from 10am to noon.

Each morning hundreds of people come in for breakfast. They are mostly international students here to work for the summer. We pray with them, love them, and share the Gospel of Jesus with them at the tables and from the front. Similar ministry occurs with the Thursday dinner. The reason for the food ministry is not to physically feed people, but to provide the opportunity to lift up the name of Jesus to our guests.

The Lord has sent people to help serve and minister in all these areas. Our desire at every occasion is to lift up the name of Jesus (John 12:32) and for God to move and minister as HE desires. Zechariah 4:6 says, “Not by might, not by power, but by My Spirit says the Lord”.

Good News Reports From Visiting Mission Teams

“During Outreach on the boardwalk this week, I handed a young lady a tract and asked her if she had ever seen the Sand Sculptures before. She said she hadn’t. Then I asked her if she had Jesus in her heart, and again she said no but she wanted to. So a few other ladies and I prayed for her. She accepted Jesus into her heart! I am so thankful that God used me to further His Kingdom!”

“One day after we were closed but hadn’t left yet, a man came in and said it was time for him to accept God into his life and asked us to explain what he had to do. We explained the Gospel to him and prayed with him to accept Jesus as Lord of his life.”

“I learned that this matters more than I knew. I’ve never done anything like what I did these past few days. I just want to be the hero that God made me, even though I’ve sinned and fallen short, I strive to be like Christ and He was the greatest hero. I was honored to carry His cross. #Jesus is my favorite super hero.”

“This week really drew me closer to God. I had a lot of fun, and it was a great experience!!! The Bible studies were amazing. Thank you all so much!”

“The Bible times were always encouraging. The Good News Bible translation presents a fresh view of God’s truth with insights into familiar passages. As I was serving as greeter today, I found myself pouring out my heart over this place and the people being fed physical food that they might be nourished by the Spirit of God. That He might be honored by their response and His heart filled with joy over their choices. There was such a sense of God’s presence and His delight in the ministry taking place here. What a joy to be part of what God was doing.”

“It’s been a wonderful week! The thing that stands out for me was John 8:29, ‘He Who sent Me is with Me; He has not left me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to Him.’ This arrested me last night! When we recognize God’s presence, we are never alone. He always had God’s presence until the cross when He was suddenly abandoned because He had become sin for us. That was His first experience with aloneness! May I always do what is pleasing to Him!”

“During the first Thursday dinner ministry of the summer at Son’Spot, 3 young Muslim men from Turkey directly asked me to share with them at the table my story of how I became a Christian and why I believe that Jesus is Lord. They listened intently to my testimony, and the Lord gave me the words to share about what it is like to have the Holy Spirit living in me. They asked me if I thought I would still have become a Christian if my family was not. I said I believed that I would if I was given the opportunity to be taught about Jesus. And I told them stories of people I have personally met in countries all over the world who encounter the realness of Jesus and then choose to follow Him and become a Christian despite their own families calling them crazy. It was a really great and open discussion about how no matter what religion your country or family follows, (in a Christian nation like the USA or in a Muslim nation like Turkey) at the end of the day you have to choose the truth for yourself. You have to have a real RELATIONSHIP with Jesus, not just a religion.”

“The experience my family and I had at The Son’Spot was amazing. My wife and I wanted our children to experience servitude away from home and away from what they’re normally use to on a day to day basis. We made sure that they knew we where going to serve and not on a vacation. God has really ignited a fire in us for winning souls and serving others. We had to deny ourselves and dedicate ourselves to the work of the Lord. Not only did we serve food for the body, but we also ate food for the spirit; the daily Bible studies kept a much needed balance and gave us strength to go on with the work of the Lord. The boardwalk outreach allowed us to see that we can’t give up on the lost. The Bible says in Proverbs 11:30, ‘He that winneth souls is wise’. The week for us was definitely a labor of love. Our children are still talking about what an awesome time they had, and the new family they’ve gained. We look forward to returning Lord willing next year for round 2. May the blessings of the Lord be with Son’ Spot Ministries and all who serve this summer and beyond! “

“God used me to minister to people as they received food, snack bags, donuts, etc. God spoke to me through some of the Bible verses and a lot of the songs. I just realized how great, loving, and powerful God is in a new way.”

“God’s 2-Step Plan from James 4:8 says, ‘Come near to God, and God will come near to you.’ This is helpful to me and I believe this will be a great tool for counseling to help people, especially teens, when they are struggling.”

“God showed me that He can use me (in spite of my flaws, mistakes, etc.) to witness to others. There were many moments before and during this trip that I doubted my abilities. But after talking to some of the students and worshipping with them, I realized this is not about me or what I can do, it is all about God and what He can do if I simply obey.”

“It has been truly awesome to see God at work through the Son’Spot ministry. A young lady accepted Jesus as her Saviour last week. There have been people coming for prayer during outreach on the boardwalk. The Lord is touching people’s lives!! The goodness of God is amazing!!”

“The Lord showed me things that I wasn’t doing right and the Holy Spirit constantly convicted me of either thoughts or actions that do not glorify God. I am just thankful that these things have been made known to me so I can work on it to serve God and love Him with all my heart, mind & soul.”
